The art of Plastic Surgery is to restore those parts which nature hath given and malfortune hath taken away, not all to delight the eye but buoy the spirits
of the afflicted.

ARCH ANGELS: THE BROWS OF BEAUTY
by Lawrence N. Seifert, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Tyra has them, Cindy has them and so do Julia and Cameron.  They all have an arched angel graceful upcurve of the outer eyebrow.  In fact, all of the beautiful young models in those glamour magazines feature the arched upper outer brow.  It is a look of youth and beauty.  Even famous renaissance artists such as Botticelli, Caravaggio, and Leonardo painted faces with the outer brow arch and high cheekbones.  In art, this look of transition between light and dark is called chiaroscuro.  The operation for this result is called an extended deep lateral brow and cheek lift.  It is accomplished by a limited incision within the hair-bearing scalp.  By sculpting along the bone rim of the outer eye and cheek, the tissues in the outer brow are elevated without an unwanted pull on the middlebrow.  The surprised, startled, and pulled look is avoided with this technique.   In fact, there is no attempt to elevate the central portion of the eyebrow.   Frequently, an apparent excess of skin in the upper lids, causing a tired appearance, is also corrected with the extended deep brow cheek lift.  The procedure tightens skin over the upper cheekbone so that light accentuates the youthful cheekbone contour.

For women with an inner brow frown and furrow, we offer a direct-incision medial brow modification which selectively modifies the inner brow pull down frown muscles, improves the wrinkles without botox, and results in a natural dynamic lift of a few millimeters.  The inner brows are not elevated in an unnatural manner.  The small scar heals well and is largely concealed immediately below the inner brow.  The operation time is forty-five minutes.

It can be done in conjunction with a lateral temporal lift or as a separate procedure.  Psychologists have stated that eighty percent of communication is non-verbal.  Constant frowning is a negative communication. Both of these procedures can easily be combined with other operations such as a facelift and cosmetic nasal surgery.  Patients with round chubby cheek facial features benefit from the temporal brow lift with removal of cheek fat (the fat pad of Bichat) which results in the S-shape curve of facial youth and beauty.

A five-year surgical experience with this operation has eliminated the learning curve.  Our results have been presented at local, regional, and national plastic surgery medical meetings.  We get "wows" for our "glam brows".
